Story of David Perie Rijk Zwaan to focus on inspirational home cooking at virtual PMA Fresh Summit
The PMA Fresh Summit is an annual highlight for the entire fresh supply chain in the US. The 2020 edition is being held from 13-15 October – in a virtual format this year, but just as exciting and innovative as ever. Vegetable breeding company Rijk Zwaan will be focusing on the overarching theme of ‘Inspiring Ingredients for Home Cooking’.
Home cooking
David Perie, Chain Specialist at Rijk Zwaan USA, explains why: “In these times, home cooking is an important trend and one that we expect to continue. Consumers are looking for inspiration, both in stores and online. Retailers are increasingly asking for recipe suggestions to be communicated on packaging.”
Versatile items with a twist
Rijk Zwaan offers the inspiration that consumers and retailers are looking for in order to prepare healthy, tasty meals that are new and different but still familiar enough to appeal to the whole family. “We’re presenting versatile items that offer a twist on the classics, such as Sweet Palermo, Crunchy Lettuce and purple cauliflower. People know these items, but are more familiar with a different shape, size, colour or usage. We’re also choosing to promote traditional items that are often overlooked in our market, like aubergine and kohlrabi,” says Perie.
Separate booth for Love My Salad
Rijk Zwaan’s consumer platform called Love My Salad offers inspiration for home cooking too. Perie: “That’s why we’ve decided to have a separate booth for Love My Salad in order to attract more attention to this inspiring social salad network. Our goal is to get a few more followers and highlight even more ways to help stimulate the consumption of fresh and healthy vegetables.”
Collaboration opportunities
Both the US and Canadian teams are involved in the virtual Rijk Zwaan booth, which features new products, new ideas and market trends. “Plus there are plenty of opportunities for collaboration and introduction opportunities, whether through product presentations, information, video conferencing or live chats,” Perie explains. That’s how we share a healthy future.
